Setup Mode - allows one to setup a position, including starting from an ECO coded opening.
Train Mode - allows one to play a game against the engine, including from a setup position. Step through trying to play good moves... then restart to try again, iteratively improving your memory of the opening.
Analysis - five options, each on or off:
- Grade my moves - each move is assessed as Gold best move, Silver 2nd best or a Bronze fair move. Ratings for each move are displayed. A flash of red indicates a poor move. When off, moves are simply played.
- Allow selection of engine moves - instead of the engine playing its best reply, its candidate replies are shown with ratings. Click one, press Accept move for the best, or make any move for the opponent yourself.
- Show continuous analysis - shows key moves and ideas whilst playing.
- Colour my moves by grade - in the moves table, your graded moves are shown in gold, silver, bronze or red.
- Colour engine moves by source - in the moves table, an engine move is plain if it came from the book, light blue if fetched from Lichess, green if calculated here.
Accept move (thumbs up, or the space bar) will play a red (poor) move regardless, allowing assessment of different lines. After a rated move it carries on with the game.
